Driver in fatal hit and run of motorcyclist arrested in Monroe

ST MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Troopers have arrested a man they say hit and killed a motorcyclist earlier this month.

State Police picked up 31-year-old Mark Montie Jr. of Pineville from the Monroe Police Department on Monday and charged him in the hit and run death of 32-year-old Jerome Rudolph Jr.

According to investigators, just after 8 p.m. on August 11 in Bayou Vista, Montie was leaving a Walmart parking lot when he attempted to cross the westbound lanes of US 90 to enter he median turning lane. Montie pulled in front of Rudolph who was riding his motorcycle westbound on US 90. Rudolph applied his rear brakes causing the bike to lay on its side and hit the rear, left quarter panel of the pick up truck.

Rudolph sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montie moved his truck to a controlled rest and fled the scene on foot.

Montie was transferred to St. Mary Parish Jail where he has been charged with hit and run, no head lights, interfering with official duties of a State Trooper, no insurance, driving under suspension, resisting arrest by flight, failure to yield from a private drive, illegal window tint, no license plate, unauthorized use of a moveable, failure to report a crash and possession of Methamphetamine.
