BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department is searching for a second suspect after an officer-involved shooting Monday night in North Baton Rouge.
According to police, they attempted to pull over 30-year-old St. Julian Baranco just before 10:45 p.m. Monday night in the 5800 block of Hollywood Street. Baranco refused to pull over and hit two police cruisers and attempted to hit two police officers.
"That vehicle is two, three thousand pounds and they're using it as a weapon to not only harm the officers but potentially they could have ran that vehicle into a house," said Cpl. L'Jean McKneely with Baton Rouge Police.
Officers fired shots at the vehicle hitting Baranco in the shoulder.
Baranco was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and then released into police custody.
A second suspect, who was a passenger in the car, fled the scene on foot. He is still at large.
Baranco has been booked into parish prison and charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder of a police officer and aggravated criminal damage to property. His bond is set at $275,000.
According to court records, Baranco had just been released on February 16 to good time parole supervision for a 10-year sentence on armed robbery and principal to carjacking charges. His full sentence wasn't set to end until June of 2016. There was a warrant issued for Baranco in June for absconding supervision.
If you have any information about this incident or the whereabouts of the second suspect, you are asked to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 225-389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
