Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal orders flags at half staff for LSP Tpr. Steven Vincent

On Monday morning, Governor Bobby Jindal issued the following statement on the passing of Trooper Steven Vincent. The governor also issued an Executive Order calling for the flags at all state buildings to be flown at half staff until Friday, August 28 for the passing of Trooper Steven Vincent.

"Supriya and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Trooper Steven Vincent. Steven was an honorable husband, father and State Trooper who courageously served our state for over a decade," said Governor Jindal in a statement Monday. "Brave men and women like Steven put their lives in danger every day to protect our families, and we are extremely grateful to them for keeping us safe. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Steven's family and all of our law enforcement members as we mourn this tragic loss."

The following is the Executive Order issued by Gov. Jindal:

On Sunday, August 23, 2015, Senior Trooper Steven Vincent of the Louisiana State Police was shot in the line of duty while attempting to provide assistance to an impaired driver.

Several passing motorists risked their lives to provide immediate assistance to Trooper Vincent and successfully apprehended the suspect;

On Monday, August 24, 2015, Trooper Vincent succumbed to his injuries and passed away.  Trooper Vincent was an honorable man who proudly served on the Louisiana State Police for 13 years.

Trooper Vincent is survived by his wife, Katherine, and his son, Ethan. The thoughts and prayers of all Louisianians are with Trooper Vincent's family and the entire Louisiana State Police community;

Our law enforcement men and women bravely risk their lives every day to protect our communities and our citizens, and we are all extremely grateful for their dedicated service.

Now therefore, I, Bobby Jindal, Governor of the State of Louisiana, by virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana, do hereby order and direct as follows:

SECTION 1: As an expression of respect for Trooper Steven Vincent, the flags of the United States and the State of Louisiana shall be flown at half staff over the State Capitol and all public buildings and institutions of the State of Louisiana until sunset on Friday, August 28, 2015.

SECTION 2: This Order is effective upon signature and shall remain in effect until sunset, Friday, August 28, 2015, unless amended, modified, terminated, or rescinded prior to that date.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand officially and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of Louisiana, at the Capitol, in the city of Baton Rouge, on this 24th day of August, 2015.
