BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There is just one week left in the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council's Laptops for Kids Program in East Baton Rouge Parish. From now through August 31, students in grades Pre-K through high school can visit the nonprofit at 1400 Main Street to take advantage of the program.
"It feels fabulous," Executive Director Nancy Jo Craig said. "Kids come in and they color for us and then they go home with, a lot of times, first-time laptops they've never been able to have."
Craig said there's a digital divide in our community. Families cannot always afford a $700 laptop, but their children need them for school in many cases.
CACRC will sell recycled and refurbished laptops for $125 (including tax) to students with a valid ID or recent report card. The computer comes with Windows 7 and a 1-year warranty.
"If anything goes wrong, you know we're here," Craig said. "You get to know our techs, we work with people and it's not some anonymous thing. We stand by our products and want to help as many families as we can."
