HOLDEN, LA (WAFB) - A real classic is coming to South Louisiana with a Shakespearean festival.
"Louisiana and A Midsummer Night's Dream would actually not be much of a stretch because there's a lot of similarities," said actor Chasen Schneider. "There's different cultures and there's social classes and there's people you allowed to marry and people you're not allowed to marry."
Shakespeare in the Swamp will take the stage Thursday, August 27 through Saturday, August 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the John Schneider Studios in Holden. Gates open for the festival at 5 p.m. each night.
The feature presentation is A Midsummer Night's Dream with Chasen, John Schneider's son, as one of the leads. It is directed by Perry Martin from the Bayou Playhouse. Several of the actors are local.
"The benefit of that is actually tapping into the local community and really engaging it and getting it more involved in the studio world," said producer Alicia Allain.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Talented Arts Program through the Livingston Parish School System and the Bayou Playhouse.
