BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man is behind bars after using an officer's own Taser against them.
The Baton Rouge Police Department says that responders to a Thursday morning call at a residence on Airline Highway learned that Michael Lewis, 37, allegedly assaulted his mother. According to the victim, Lewis chased her to a back room, where the suspect allegedly struck her multiple times.
When officers attempted to put Lewis in handcuffs, he allegedly began to fight back. One officer used his Taser against Lewis, but police reports say that it was non-effective. The suspect was then able to turn the Taser on the officer, striking the officer on his left leg with the Taser's second cartridge.
Police were able to get the situation under control after about five minutes of struggling. Lewis was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on resisting an officer with force, disarming of a police officer, simple battery, and two aggravated battery charges.
