BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities are on the scene of a hit and run crash that sent a police officer and another driver to the hospital Friday morning and resulted in a citation for a work truck driver.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the wreck happened on Perkins Road near the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
Police said the officer was transported to the hospital by EMS, while the driver of the car was taken to the hospital by a family member. The extent of the injuries or their conditions are unknown. Their names were not released.
Investigators reported that a driver in a work truck was headed westbound on Perkins and pulled in front of the officer while trying to make a U-turn. They said the officer, who was headed eastbound, swerved into the westbound lane to avoid the truck and collided head-on with a car.
According to police, the driver of the work truck didn't realize a crash had happened and continued westbound on Perkins. An officer later caught up to the driver and issued him a citation for careless operation. His name was not released.
