MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Winners of the 2015 Youth Angler of the Year award were announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Prairieville's own 12-year-old Sean Turner, and Lafayette's 7-year-old Beatrice Long were honored at the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association's annual conference in Morgan City.
Children ages 15 and under were challenged to submit an essay about a memorable fishing trip, along with a photo of the entrant and the fish they caught.
Beatrice described her pride in being the first one to catch a red fish in a "whole boatful of grown-ups." Sean detailed a thunderstorm postponing a family fishing trip, and the reward and joy he and his family got from finally getting out on the water.
Each winner received a plaque, rod and reel combo, and a lifetime fishing license.
