Former Baseball Prospect Arrested

GONZALES, La. (AP) - Former professional baseball player Gregory "Toe" Nash has been arrested on a probation violation after refusing to leave a woman's residence.

Nash, who had played in the minor league system of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was sentenced to five years of probation and 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 2002.

Gonzales Police Chief Bill Landry says Nash was arrested Saturday night after a woman called police complaining that he would not leave. While investigating the complaint, officers were told there was a warrant for Nash's arrest on a charge of failing to meet with a probation officer. Nash ran as officers tried to arrest him. Landry says Nash was later arrested in a wooded area and booked with resisting a police officer and violating parole.

Nash, who is now 23, was once considered a major league baseball prospect.
