LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - Lafayette Police are searching for two men who beat up and robbed another man on Friday, August 14 at approximately 9:20 p.m. at the Kleiser Chevron gas station on East Gloria Switch Road.
According to the victim, as he walked down the street he noticed two men following him so he sat on a bench where he thought he was visible to the cameras at the business. Police reports say the two suspects demanded money from the victim and then punched him repeatedly in the face and body.
The video shows the two suspects reached into the victim's pockets and removed his wallet containing more than $500. Mobile users, click here to watch the video.
Later, the two men appeared to hit the man across the head with a gasoline nozzle. After the men left the scene, video shows him sitting on the stoop near the front door of the service station with blood dripping from his nose.
"Some big pieces of blood," the victim said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with fractured teeth and bones.
"I've never seen anything like that in my life, never had any problem here," said Kirk Kleiser, who has owned the gas station for the past 10 years.
Kleiser first posted a clip of the security footage on Facebook, garnering hundreds of thousands of views.
"It's amazingly fast and violent how quickly and hard they hit him, how they kicked him," Kleiser said.
Kleiser and his customers describe the store as being in a relatively safe neighborhood.
"It's just appalling," said Crosby Richardson.
"This is someplace I shop at often. It kind of makes you nervous in the stomach to think that can go on at someplace you frequent all the time," said Fay Patten.
The victim said he believes he was set up by his girlfriend or by her son. The girlfriend, who said they have been a couple for around seven years, emphatically denies those claims though did not wish to have her face appear on camera.
The first suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, last seen wearing a blue shirt with black pants.
The second suspect is described as a heavy set black male with short hair, last seen wearing a black shirt with blue shorts.
