BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Nearly five years after a 2-month-old died while in the care of a daycare in Baker, the former worker pleaded no contest to negligent homicide.
In October 2010, 2-month-old Brody Hopper was in the care of Ashley Rene Reifer at Busy Bee Learning Center on Groom Road in Baker.
According to reports, Brody Hopper was unresponsive when he was taken from Baker Busy Bee Learning Center to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy reported he died of "traumatic brain injury," which is also known as shaken baby syndrome.
Reifer was scheduled to go to trial on August 24, 2015 on a second degree murder charge. Because of her no contest plea to negligent homicide, State District Judge Chip Moore gave her a suspended five-year prison term and put her on active supervised probation for five years.
