This week's "Your Turn" segment goes to Michele Stead Lamar. Lamar joined dozens of others in an overwhelmingly negative reaction to the news about lowering academic standards to play sports in East Baton Rouge Parish schools. The school board Thursday reduced the GPA required to play sports down to a 1.5. Lamar and many others on our Facebook page don't like that.
In her words: Is it any wonder why major corporations refuse to come to LA? Education has yet to become a major priority in this state. Now, just passing is the best required so your child can play a sport. Really? This is the most ridiculous reasoning I've ever seen. You should be ashamed. And most importantly, you are cheating children because they will not strive to do their best or push themselves to succeed because it no longer seems important.
