BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana's annual sales tax holiday weekend is happening right when back-to-school shoppers could use it most.
The holiday, taking place on Friday, August 7 and 8, will exempt the state's four percent sales tax of the first $2,500 on each eligible item.
Most purchases are covered by the temporary exemption, with the tax holiday NOT applying to vehicles subject to title and license, meals made at restaurants, taxable services like hotels, laundromats, printing services, telecommunication services, cold storage furnishing, personal property leases or rentals, property repairs, and sporting event admission.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue is also encouraging families to keep receipts for back-to-school items like supplies, uniforms, and equipment required by schools. These purchases could qualify for tax deductions on the 2015 Louisiana Income Tax Returns that are due in May 2016.
