BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It is the first day of school for thousands of kids in south Louisiana, as East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Tangipahoa and St. Mary parishes begin the new school year.
Students and teachers at Lasalle Elementary School in Baton Rouge are excited to head back to class and school officials will explain what they expect this year.
"I want kids to get to school early, be on time every day, but most of all, attend every day," Warren Drake, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, said during a convocation held Wednesday. "I think there is this perception that students have a certain number of days to be absent. That is absolutely incorrect. We want to make sure that kids are in school every day, teachers and employees are in school every day, because nobody does it as good as those teachers."
Livingston and St. Helena parishes start school Friday.
