GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Officials in Ascension Parish have decided to cut the cost of electricity at a major venue in the area.
A new solar energy lighting project is complete at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
According to officials, the system is going to reduce the center's yearly cost for energy by about 10 percent.
Not only will solar panels light the way inside the expo center, but parish leaders said the lights around the lake will draw from the sun, too.
Those solar panels could generate enough electricity to power about 39 homes for one year.
The project was completed by NRG Energy.
