BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Firefighters were called out to an apartment fire in the Gardere area Wednesday morning that investigators ruled as arson.

The St. George Fire Department reported it happened on Ned Avenue between Port Drive and Starboard Drive before 6:30 a.m.

Eldon Ledoux with SGFD said the four-plex was an abandoned property. He added firefighters found flames shooting out of an upstairs apartment in the back of the structure.

According to Ledoux, firemen quickly put out the fire and the damage was contained to the back of the apartment.

Investigators said they were able to collect evidence that the fire was intentionally set. No one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing. The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation.
