BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office honored the men and women who took the extra step to help protect the public on Tuesday night.
EBRSO held its 7th annual awards banquet at the Healing Place Church. It honors the deputies who went above and beyond in their service to the parish.
The sheriff's office said it is important for everyone to recognize the great work their deputies do.
"It's more important now than ever that our deputies realize that they're appreciated, and that the job they do is appreciated," said EBRSO spokeswoman Casey Hicks. "There's a saying that law enforcement is often the first called, the first to arrive, the first criticized, but the last to be recognized, and Sheriff Gautreaux really wanted to change that, and he wanted to make sure that our deputies and that law enforcement know that the job they do is extremely important and is very appreciated."
In all, more than 50 deputies were honored at Tuesday night's ceremony.
