BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The ground on one section of Gus Young started shaking Tuesday morning, as crews began demolishing the neighborhood pool there.
BREC has said the pool is beyond repair.
One man called it a sad day to see heavy equipment tear up the place where his children swam. He said he was told a crack was the reason the pool would not hold water.
"I'm almost in tears," Elwin Burns said. "Our children need a viable place where they can learn to dance and swim."
BREC said replacing the pool would have cost about $500,000, plus another $92,000 a year in upkeep.
The superintendent of BREC said taxpayers could not afford those costs.
