BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire investigators are working to determine what caused a deadly house fire Monday night.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Voorhies Drive just before 10 p.m.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office said the man died of smoke inhalation. His name has not been released.
Firefighters reported seeing flames shooting out of the front window when they arrived on the scene. The man's body was found as they entered the home.
Curt Monte with BRFD said the fire was contained to a bedroom and part of the hallway. It was under control by 10:15 p.m.
Officials said at least five people, including the victim, lived in the house.
According to BRFD, the house did not seem to have any working smoke detectors. Monte added the fire caused significant damage to the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
