BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There was a rash of vehicle burglaries, specifically in the late hours of Friday night and early Saturday morning.

"We haven't really had anything like this all year," said Cpl. Don Coppola with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

All across the parish, there were at least 54 break-ins that were reported. BRPD is investigating 36 reported cases. 24 were at the Jefferson Heights Apartments, seven at the Sherwood Acres Apartments, three in the Park Forest area and two at the Magnolia Trace Apartments.

Cpl. Coppola said in the majority of cases, windows were busted out of vehicles and any money or lose credit or debit cards were taken.

Throughout the parish, there were also reported break-ins. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office reported looking into at least 18 reported cases.

12 were at the St. Jean Apartments, two on East Perkins Road, two at townhomes on E. Hunter's Chapel Court, one in the Gardere area and another at the Bayou Rouge Condos.

"We want to remind people to park in well lit areas. Remember to lock your doors. Don't leave your valuables out in plain view," said Cpl. Coppola.
