THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) -

An officer with the Thibodaux Police Department was patrolling an area near the basketball behind the Harang Auditorium in Thibodaux when he heard gunshots.

The gunshots were heard just after 8 p.m. on Friday, but when the officer arrived on scene, the 30 or so people playing basketball appeared to be acting as though nothing happened, and did not want to cooperate with officers.

The responding officer said he could smell the gunshot smoke.

During the investigation, a K9 alerted on a vehicle parked on the side of the basketball courts. The vehicle belonged to 19-year-old Donovan Wright. Officers found an AK-47, 100 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle and spent shell casings in the area.

No one was injured during the shooting, but Wright was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center after posting a $6,500 bond.
