BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Hundreds gathered at the West Baton Rouge community center to get advice on how to start over.
Rax Worldwide held "Another Expungement Event" in an effort to help citizens get their criminal history expunged. Attendees had a chance to sit down with attorneys to get free legal advice. Vanisia Winston is an organizer of the event. She said people make mistakes, but it doesn't mean they have to be punished for the rest of their lives.
"Everyone has a right to a second and third chance, sometimes," said Winston. "So who are we not to allow everyone to have that sense of freedom?"
For many, this is event is a way to a fresh start, but Angie Bennett, who is working to get a felony taken off her record, said it's more like a healing process.
"My fresh start happened the moment I got in trouble," said Bennett. "I woke up that moment so this is just to finish healing and move on."
