BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - One of hundreds of new laws that go into effect on Saturday means bad news for litterbugs.
In order to crack down on littering, fines for the crime are doubling.
The most minor offenses will jump from $75 to $150. People who don't properly throw away furniture and appliances will face the steepest penalty at a maximum of $10,000.
The money collected from the fines will go toward the retirement system's debt.
