BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - People in one Baton Rouge neighborhood are trying to make a change to their community by forming an organization.
The Valley Park Civic Association will hold its first meeting under the Valley St. Bridge Saturday. Vernon Pitcher, who lives in the area and helped form the organization, said that he can not stand the way the community looks.
Currently, Valley Park is overtaken by abandoned buildings, vacant lots, graffiti and overgrown grass. Pitcher is hoping people in the neighborhood will put their heads together and come up with a plan to make a change.
"We would like to get more input from all of the neighbors in our area, and for them to come and make a joint effort," said Pitcher. "We want to improve our neighborhood and make life for people safe and encourage everyone to keep that spirit."
The meeting starts at 10 a.m Saturday.
