BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana State Police say that a man died after swerving off the road and into a canal.
The incident happened at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. An investigation showed that 25-year-old Michael Hains, of St. Francisville, died after he overturned his 2004 Cadillac CTS northbound on US 61.
For unknown reasons, Hains's vehicle ran off of the right side of the road, striking a private driveway and continued into a wooded area, ending on the roof of the car, partially submerged in a canal.
Hains was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is expected to be a factor in this crash, and a toxicology test is pending.
