BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A teenager already jailed in connection with an armed robbery has been re-booked on an additional charge.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Edwin Vargas, 17, was booked Thursday on a charge of theft. His bond was set at $20,000.
According to the arrest warrant, the victim had scheduled to meet up with a man near a business on Coursey Boulevard on July 9 to sell two iPhones.
Deputies said while the victim was showing the phones, Vargas allegedly swung at him but missed. They added another teen grabbed the phones and the two suspects ran away in different directions.
An investigator called the victim Tuesday morning to get more information and the victim claimed his girlfriend had mentioned reading about a teen getting arrested for allegedly robbing a Craigslist customer at gunpoint.
The warrant stated the victim told the deputy it was the same person who had tried to hit him. The deputy later identified Vargas as the suspect.
