BLUFFTON, SC (WAFB) - The national champion LSU golf team could be adding a national champion to its lineup soon.
Tigers recruit Philip Barbaree of Byrd High in Shreveport is on the verge of making the finals of the US Junior Amateur Championship in Bluffton, South Carolina. Barbaree advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Norway's Kristoffer Reitan, and was all square with South Korea's Won Jun Lee when darkness suspended play Friday after 17 holes.
A victory on Saturday would advance Barbaree to a 36-hole match for the national championship against Hilton Head's Andrew Orischak.
If Barbaree could earn a victory there, it would put 17-year-old Louisiana native in the company of greats like Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth, who each won the USGA junior title twice.
