Baker school beautification project seeking volunteers

BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A beautification project at a Baker school is hoping to wow students with a number of new projects.

Bakerfield Elementary School in Baker saw volunteers slinging paint, pruning trees and digging up landscape to transform the building and its grounds. School officials say they will take all of the help they can get through Saturday.

School Principal Candace Jenkins said that the community fix up is a learning experience.

"We're hoping the students will be excited and ready for a brand new school year full of learning and engagement," said Jenkins. "We hope this motivates them to become active participants and become involved with beautifying their school and helping keep their school in a good state."

Included in the rest of the projects is Bakerfield's first ever botanical garden. This will allow children to plant greens and learn about the science and math in caring for the plants.

Anyone willing to help is urged to go to 2550 South Street in Baker. The school is willing to take all volunteers until Saturday.
