BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An amazing 10-year-old got a new job Wednesday as an ambassador for Louisiana.
Dayton Suire was officially honored as "Louisiana's Champion" in a special event at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. He will now represent the Children's Miracle Network.
Dayton was run over by a truck when he was just five years old. As a result, he lives with cerebral palsy and epilepsy and still gets physical therapy every week.
"To see all of these people here to celebrate him, we've worked so hard these past five years to get him where he is," said Katie Suire, Dayton's mom. "He's worked tirelessly and so it's just amazing five years ago we surely never thought we'd be where we are now."
Mayor Kip Holden and LSU gymnastic coach D-D Breaux helped celebrate.
Dayton will now take his brave story of survival on the road, representing Louisiana at Miracle Network events over the next year.
