NEW IBERIA, LA (WAFB) - A New Iberia man pleaded guilty in the 2008 case of a murdered woman.
According to officials with the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office, Keith Overton Leleux entered a guilty plea for the murder of Judy Landry. He was indicted on one count of first-degree murder by a grand jury in April 2015.
Judge Keith Comeaux sentenced Leleux to life imprisonment without parole.
Leleux admitted that he went to Landry's home on July 1, 2008 to get money to buy drugs. He brought tie straps "in case he needed to use force or violence" while getting the money.
Leleux said he strangled her with a choke hold until she passed out after she picked up the phone to call police. He then used the ties around Landry's neck as she lay on the floor, securing them tightly causing her to died from asphyxiation.
