ACADIA PARISH, LA & LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Troopers say they seized a large amount of illegal drugs during two separate traffic stops this weekend on Interstate 10.
According to State Troopers, the first traffic stop happened Saturday just before 6 a.m. on I-10 eastbound near Duson. Troopers pulled over a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant driven by 37-year-old Alax Trigo of Houston, Texas for a traffic violation. During the stop, Troopers say they received permission from Trigo to search the vehicle. During the search, Troopers located nearly 124 pounds of marijuana.
Trigo was arrested and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail where he was charged with improper lane usage, no driver's license and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
The second traffic stop happened just after 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. State Troopers stopped a 2007 Mercedes driven by 23-year-old Tyler Hobbs also from Houston, Texas. During the stop, Troopers questioned both Hobbs and his passenger, 23-year-old Marques Jones of Humble, Texas. Troopers then received permission from Hobbs to search his vehicle. During the search, Troopers located nearly 1350 Ecstasy pills, 1000 Xanax pills and four pints of Promethazine Syrup.
Both Hobbs and Jones were arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail where they were charged with possession with the intent to distribute schedule I and schedule IV narcotics and possession with the intent to distribute promethazine.
