BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Baton Rouge Fire Department says a woman was arrested Monday after setting a garbage bag on fire in front of an apartment.

Firefighters say they received a call just before 7 p.m. about a fire at an apartment in the 4600 block of Alvin Dark Avenue. When firefighters arrived they found a garbage bag near the front door of the apartment on fire.

When the fire was extinguished, firefighters noticed the bag was filled with men’s clothing and personal items.

According to witnesses, they saw a woman walk up to the apartment, place the bag in front of the door and set the bag on fire using a lighter and a can of hairspray.

The woman was later identified as Courtney Pittman. She is a resident of the same apartment complex where the fire occurred.

Investigators learned the items in the bag belonged to Pittman’s ex-boyfriend. Pittman allegedly placed the bag at the apartment because she believed the apartment belonged to her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

Pittman was arrested by Baton Rouge Fire Department's Arson Investigators and charged with simple arson.
