WALKER, LA (WAFB) - A woman is dead, one man is hospitalized with serious injuries and another man is in jail after two people were hit by a car Monday afternoon.
Louisiana State Police reported Maggie Lynn, 57, of Independence, was killed along I-12 West near LA 447 in Walker around 4 p.m. Troopers added James Kinchen, 56, of Tickfaw, was badly hurt in the wreck. They also said Mekdad Zidan, 26, of Baton Rouge, was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on charges of negligent homicide and reckless operation.
Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the preliminary investigation showed Lynn and Kinchen were stopped on the shoulder of I-12 trying to load a car onto a trailer, when Zidan lost control of the 2007 Ford Crown Victoria he was driving. He added the car started to spin, went off the road, hit the two people and plowed into the trailer.
Reports stated Lynn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office. They added Kinchen was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have not provided any other details on his condition. According to investigators, Zidan had only minor injuries.
Lee said impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, but speed is. Blood samples were taken from him and the two victims. They were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing.
