Elderly man succumbs to injuries sustained in two-vehicle crash

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say that an 85-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle crash.

The crash occurred at about noon on Friday, July 17 on LA 44 north of LA 931.

The initial investigation by State Police showed that Gonzales resident Keith McLin, 48, was traveling northbound on LA 44.

At the same time, 85-year-old Clifford Rice, of Gonzales was traveling behind McLin. As McLin was stopping in order to make a left turn, Rice failed to stop and ran into the back of McLin's vehicle.

Rice was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries in the crash, and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. On Sunday, July 19, Rice succumbed to his injuries.

McLin was not injured in the crash. Police do not expect impairment to be a factor in this crash.
