BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A woman is celebrating her 107th birthday, according to the EBR Council on Aging.

Norma Sykes, 107, was given a birthday cake and flowers by the council. She was born on July 18, 1908. Here are some of the things that took place that year:

January 1, 1908 marked the first time the ball signifying the New Year dropped in Times Square. Ballpark classic "Take me out to the Ball Game" was registered for copyright, and the first Mother's Day was observed.

The first horror movie, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, premiered in Chicago. Henry Ford's company built the first Model T car, and Chicago Cubs beat Detroit to win the World Series.

Ms. Sykes told council officials that she was happy with the party, and that she is not an “old woman.”
