IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A man convicted of shooting another man to death, putting the victim's body in the trunk of a car and setting the car on fire has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Jason Mascarella, 36, of St. Gabriel was charged with second-degree murder when police arrested him in May 2012. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

According to investigators, Mascarella shot Roderick White, 33, at a mobile home, then put White's body in the trunk of a car and drove it to the levee and set the car on fire.

Authorities believe Mascarella then went back to the mobile home and set it on fire. The mobile home is behind Mascarella's parent's home in St. Gabriel.

White's body was discovered by police patrolling the levee south of Gardere on May 1, 2012.

Detectives searched the area and were able to determine the vehicle was parked on the levee sometime on April 28, 2012 around 4 p.m.

Authorities said Mascarella had been released from EBR Parish Prison on April 25, 2012.
