BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office is tasking kids ages 6-16 to come up with a name for two brand new robots.
The two remote controlled bots, funded through the Port Security Grant Program, will be used to inspect places and situations that are too dangerous for police.
SMPSO Sheriff Mark Hebert is asking kids ages 6-16 to come up with a name, then explain why the sheriff's office should use that name. The names will be used when officers bring the robots to St. Mary Parish schools to use as ambassadors to help teach about safety.
Winners will receive a $100 Walmart gift card for each winning name.
Entries can be dropped off at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office on the fourth floor of the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin. Entries can be mailed in to P.O. Box 571, Franklin, LA 70538.
The deadline for entries is 7/31/15.
