BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a man intentionally rammed the vehicle of and got into a fight with a guy who was giving the suspect's fiancee a ride home from a bar Saturday night.
Paul Waugh, 29, of Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:
- Hit and run
- Aggravated criminal damage to property
- Aggravated battery
- Simple battery
- Reckless operation
His bond was set at $23,500. The parish prison reported he was released Monday after posting bond.
According to the probable cause report, a man told deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office he was giving an unknown woman a ride home after leaving a bar and they stopped at a convenience store.
The report added the man claimed while in the parking lot, the woman pointed to a truck at the corner of Jefferson Highway and Hoo Shoo Too Road. The report stated, "the accused then entered the parking lot and intentionally rammed the victim's vehicle with his truck."
According to the report, Waugh backed up and hit the man's vehicle a few more times. Authorities said Waugh then got out of his truck and the two men got into an argument, which escalated to a fight. They added Waugh punched the man and then left.
The report stated the man and woman in the vehicle were checked out by EMS for injuries suffered in the crash. It did not indicate whether they were taken to the hospital or the severity of the injuries.
Deputies later found Waugh at home and arrested him. They said he admitted to ramming the victim's vehicle and to fighting him. They also reported he explained that he was mad and had been drinking.
