NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - Multiple online petitions have sprung up in response to New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu's plan to remove confederate landmarks in the Crecent City.
The nationally known petition site Change.org has seen thousands of people sign petitions related to the incident after mayor Mitch Landrieu asked the New Orleans city council to begin the legal process of having four confederate monuments declared "public nuisances", allowing them to be removed and relocated.
As of Sunday night, a petition asking signees to boycott New Orleans if Landrieu goes through with his plan has reached more than 1,800 signatures. Another petition gathered over 10,000 signatures.
The New Orleans city council says that it will have a 60-day period of discussion and public hearings before there is any vote on the matter.
