BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The capital city's latest homicide happened at a residence in Michael Cooley's neighborhood- N. Donmoor Ave. off of Florida Blvd.
"I've been living in this neighborhood for a little over two years. I really don't like the neighborhood," said Cooley.
Here's how Baton Rouge Police say it all happened early Sunday morning.
20-year-old Maquilies Whaley shot and killed his 18-year-old girlfriend, Makalya Jones, and 38-year-old Shawyn Lollis. Whaley shot one more person, she lived, before turning the gun on himself.
Police are calling it a murder-suicide.
"We do live in a bad neighborhood. It's real bad around here," said Cooley.
Police are also asking for public help with another deadly shooting.
It happened Saturday night near Southern University on Baranco St.
That area falls in the district of Baton Rouge Metro Councilwoman Chauna Banks.
"A lot of times crime is connected to those other areas such as a lack of economic development, a lack of housing," said Banks. "People who want to take life, who want to cause harm, who want to cause death, they're going to thrive in areas where these areas
are at a deficit."
BRPD says someone shot and killed 31-year-old Jovan Dumas. A second victim, a 29-year-old man, was injured but is expected to survive.
If you have any information about either shooting, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
