BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Next time you drive through Tickfaw, Louisiana, you may see one small change involving one big name.
Specialist Chris Drake was a Tickfaw native who was killed in Afghanistan while on deployment in the military in 2013. His mother says that even though it has been two years, the pain hasn't changed.
"I'm still trying to put the pieces together to learn how to live again," says Rose Drake. "I actually had to move away to get peace of mind, because everything reminded me of him."
On Saturday, the City of Tickfaw renamed Third Street, changing it to Chris Drake Drive in hopes to honor his memory and service.
Rose says that even though he won't be able to see or touch her son anymore, she knows that she can look up at on a certain street and be reminded of his presence.
"I'm happy that everyone came together and supported him," said Rose Drake. "He hasn't been forgotten, and with the help of the community, he will never be."
