Spirits remain high one day before Miss USA Pageant

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - With only 24 hours to go before a Miss USA contestant is crowned champion, organizers say that they are still committed to putting on a great event despite all of the controversy.

"The last couple of weeks have been crazy," says President of the Miss Universe association Paula Shugart. "Honestly, since we've been in Baton Rouge, it's been business as usual. The contestants have experienced Baton Rouge, they've met the people, and for them, it's been exactly what we did last year in terms of getting to know the community."

Shugart says that Baton Rouge officials stepped up and focused on making the event a great experience for the contestants.

Miss Teen USA winners were in Baton Rouge as well, getting ready for the Miss Teen USA pageant happening in the next few weeks.

"The food down here has been the best," said a Miss Teen USA contestant. "Just because I love food and it's been just awesome."

The Miss USA Pageant will appear on Reelz on Sunday, July 12. on the following networks:

  • DISH Network, Channel 299
  • AT&T U-Verse: Channel 799, Channel 1799 (for HD)
  • DIRECTV: Channel 238
  • Comcast: Channel 150.
