ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The company who owned the failed salt dome in Bayou Corne is suing another company over the massive sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
Texas Brine said oil and gas drilling by the Occidental Petroleum Corporation damaged the salt dome and ultimately caused the cavern to collapse.
Texas Brine filed a lawsuit Thursday. The company is trying to recover more than $100 million in damages.
The 31-acre sinkhole has forced Bayou Corne residents from their homes.
No comment from Occidental yet on the lawsuit.
