BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden is asking for more time to figure out the impact of a barge cleaning facility on LSU and nearby homes.
Mayor Holden sent a letter Wednesday to Louisiana's Department of Environmental Quality requesting the agency to delay a public hearing on the project for at least 30 days.
Holden said they need more time to get answers to a lot of questions they still have.
"You got virtually Baton Rouge being held hostage by a company that is seeking money," said Holden. "And they are not caring about the damage that could conceivably cause in Baton Rouge that would be devastating for everybody, and the amount that we are looking at is an amount I don't think anybody could ever envision."
A DEQ spokesperson said they'll consider delaying the public hearing, but for now it is still scheduled for Tuesday, July 14.
