BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge exported a record amount of goods in 2014, leading to a top ranking amongst American export cities, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
According the new federal report, Baton Rouge exported a record $7.5 billion in 2014, which is 20% higher than in 2013. This rose Baton Rouge's ranking in the country from the 45th to the 42nd largest exporter.
Merchandise exported from the Baton Rouge area included chemicals like petroleum and coal, agricultural products, and other manufactured goods.
Leading destinations for exports from the Capitol City went to Mexico, China, Canada, Brazil, and Belgium.
