BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Repairs to a bridge at Southern University is well underway and expected to wrap up in the coming months.
Construction crews say they expected work to finish in September. According to Ed Pratt with Southern University Relations, he said the bridge may be open to pedestrian traffic earlier than that.
"Sometime in September when they near finish the road, they could start pedestrian before then, before it's fully completed," said Pratt. "But we're just hoping that we get it completed both for the cars and for the students."
The bridge was closed in January after parts of the bridge's under girder were washed away "due to age and water intrusion from the river."
The bridge is a major roadway to get into the middle part of the campus and the closure has caused some slow downs.
Southern was able to get the state to pay for the repairs to the bridge.
