PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - Port Allen Police say that they have been able to slowly chip away at the ongoing drug problem in the community.
According to Port Allen Police Chief Esdron Brown, officers were able to recover multiple firearms and a large amount of drugs during a traffic stop on LA 1 earlier this week.
On July 6, police arrested three men, Lorenzo Dixon, Damion Catherine and another man during a traffic stop. According to police, they located an AK-47 assault rifle, a 9mm semi automatic pistol and a small caliber Smith and Wesson as well as four pills believed to be Hydrocodone. All three men were booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
Brown says working with West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputies has made a difference but they are not the only ones helping to solve the city-wide problem.
"I want to thank the public because the public has been great at working with us," says Brown. "They've been great at calling in and letting us know areas that they have problems with, where they think that suspect might be dealing drugs. So with the community and the police department working together like it was meant to be, we're making a big difference."
