BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Six days after the big announcement from the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General about a BP settlement, information has surfaced that the company will also be giving a lot of new money to tourism officials.
Visit Baton Rouge said Wednesday morning that it will accept $65,000 from BP. The settlement details were announced at Visit Baton Rouge's offices on Third Street.
The original offer from BP was $50,000, but tourism officials negotiated and were able to collect an extra $15,000.
"It wasn't that I wasn't happy, but I thought anytime there was an original offer, there was room for additional money and we operate Visit Baton Rouge like a business," Paul Arrigo, president of Visit Baton Rouge, said. "We thought that there was additional money that was available."
Arrigo added he doesn't expect to wait long for the new money to be available to Visit Baton Rouge.
