BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said they don't know what caused a truck to flip on a Louisiana highway Tuesday night, but the crash left one person dead and another badly injured.
Louisiana State Police reported Tasha Gross, 35, of Baton Rouge, was thrown out of the truck as it overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.
According to troopers, Marcus Castille, 42, also of Baton Rouge, was partially ejected as the vehicle rolled over. He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries.
LSP said the wreck happened on LA 410 (Blackwater Road) near LA 408 (Hooper Road) around 10 p.m. Investigators said the pair was headed south on Blackwater when the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche flipped on the highway and rolled over several times until it stopped on its roof in the driveway of a home.
Troopers have not yet determined who was driving at the time of the crash, but that neither was properly buckled. It is not yet known if impairment played a role in the crash.
They said a sample of Gross' blood was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. They added due to Castille's injuries, they were unable to get a sample of blood from him. Investigators collect blood samples in all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways.
Officials said the crash is still being investigated.
