Denham Springs man arrested in drug bust

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Denham Springs Police arrested a man during a drug bust last week.

Police say they arrested Russell Laughlin Jr. on July 2 after a traffic stop and a search of his home turned up $8,600 worth of narcotics in his possession.

According to police, they conducted a traffic stop of Laughlin's 2007 Dodge Charger. During the stop, officers located 121 grams of high grade marijuana with a street value of $7,000. Laughlin then told police that he also had more narcotics in his apartment.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Laughlin's apartment where they located another 40 grams of high grade marijuana, a rifle, prescription pills and equipment to cultivate hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Everything including Laughlin's car vehicle were seized in the bust.

Laughlin was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail where he has been charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS, cultivation of schedule I CDS, possession of a firearm with CDS, possession of schedule II CDS and possession of schedule IV CDS.

Laughlin remains in jail on a $170,000 bond.
